In Korea couples take their wedding pictures before their big day. Sometimes months before they actually say "I do." Sometimes at the studio or other times at a location of their choosing. There are so many beautiful places to pick - Jade Garden, Nami Island, the mountains, the Han River are just some locations to chose from....it never fails to amaze me just how gorgeous Korea is, during all four seasons.

Aaron and I thought about a number of places and in the end we went with Deoksugung Palace. In the heart of Seoul, this cultural landmark is breathtaking. Meaning, "Palace of Virtue and Longevity," Deoksugung has the perfect combination of east and west, which really resonated with us as a couple.
It features a stunning Neo-Renaissance style building called Seokjojeon built by British architect John Reginald Harding and a number of traditional Joseon styled buildings painted in vibrant hues of red, green and brown.

In autumn the leaves are a crisp golden and varying shades of orange, there's also a gorgeous lake at the entrance of the Palace. We love going for walks in the mountains and parks so the lake really called to us.

Even if you're not taking any pre-wedding pictures I'd recommend a visit to Deoksugung. It's absolutely mesmerising and if you dress up in a hanbok the entrance ticket is free.
The Palace is closed on Monday's but open every other day from 9am to 9pm with last admission at 8pm. Tickets are 1000 won and anyone below 19 or above 65 don't need a ticket. On Culture Day (the last Wednesday of the month) admission is free.
